Stay aware of email scams

Provet has been made aware that an Australian customer has received a fraudulent email notifying them of a change to our bank details, including a modified version of a Provet statement.

This email was not sent by Provet, and our business details have not changed.

Unfortunately, email scams impersonating businesses are now a common occurrence in our everyday digital lives. A common scam relies on changes of account details, also known as an invoice scam. If you ever receive an email from a reputable business saying that their account details have changed, it is highly likely to be a scam.

If you receive an email that you suspect is fraudulent:

  • Do not respond, even if the email is supposedly from a known person or business that you have recently been corresponding with.
  • Attempt to contact the sending company to verify the request. Do not use the phone number on the email or invoice. Instead, look up the phone number or email address through an official source, such as your existing records or the company website.
  • Notify the company being impersonated and any relevant authorities of the scam.
  • Have an IT professional look at your devices and/or email accounts to ensure they are clear of any malicious activity.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, please report it to CERT NZ at www.cert.govt.nz/individuals/report-an-issue/
